Finding Teaching

Becoming a Pilates teacher was never part of the plan — it happened completely by accident. I first stepped into a Pilates studio back in 2010 because I was in pain and my chiropractor insisted I needed to start moving my muscles. At the time, I felt disconnected from my body, unsure how to help it, and honestly just fed up.

Fast‑forward ten years and curiosity got the better of me. I enrolled in a comprehensive Pilates teacher training course because I wanted to understand why certain exercises worked and what was really happening inside the body. The course was intense — a full year of observation hours, self‑practice, supervised teaching, student teaching, and deep dives into everything from injuries to spring settings to variations. I originally signed up purely to improve my own practice and maybe crack some of those advanced moves that had always felt out of reach.

But something unexpected happened. As I started teaching my course mates, I realised how much I genuinely enjoyed it. I still remember a 1:1 session with the studio owner where she asked what my plans were after the course — and whether I’d ever consider teaching. I walked away thinking, Wow… I could actually do this.

When the course ended, I was offered my first class: Reformer. I’ll admit, I felt a little disappointed at first because my heart belonged to Equipment Pilates, but I said yes anyway. A little while later, I was offered Equipment classes — along with 1:1 client slots — and I couldn’t have been happier. From there, things snowballed in the best way. More Equipment classes, more Reformer, more mat, more private clients… and more confidence.

Today, I’m lucky enough to work across several studios, and one of my favourite parts of the job is supporting student teachers as they prepare for their exams. Helping them refine their teaching, build their confidence, and step into their own style feels incredibly rewarding.

I’m still learning every single day, and I’m excited to keep growing — both as a teacher and as a student of the method that changed everything for me.
